Chartwells has been a registered umbrella body for undertaking UK criminal record checks since the introduction of CRB checks in March 2002. Criminal record checks are managed by the Screening & Licensing division (a.k.a.Verify).
Since December 2012, the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) merged with the Independent Safeguarding Authority and created a new government agency called the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
DBS checks (formerly CRB checks) are a critical part of the safeguarding process for staff with access to vulnerable adults and children, or for employees working in certain regulated roles. Compass Group now has access to an online system called eBulk which means that we can now process criminal record checks much more quickly and accurately.
The average turnaround time for DBS disclosures using the eBulk service is less than 5 days, compared with 6-8 weeks for paper applications.
